Horseback Riding Trails

Rider in white dress sits atop brown horse in mountain meadow at sunset.

The Chickamauga Battlefield:

A very popular location located right in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia is the historic Chickamauga, Battlefield where many locals go to walk, ride bikes, and ride their horses through the trails. There are three horseback riding trails offered. The red trail is a loop that is just under 8 miles, the white trail is a cut through which is just over 5 miles, and the blue trail is a connector trail just under a mile long. They all interconnect with the red trail being the main loop. The trails are mostly flat with some washout and rocks but a very moderate route.

The parking lot for horse trailers is at the corner of Dyer Road and Vittetoe Chickamauga Road. The parking lot is very accessible, where you have the ability to pull off and pull through without needing to backup or turn around. The trails are easy to find, just up the hill directly across from the parking lot.

North Pocket Loop Trail:

This is considered a very challenging trail, it can take up to 5 hours to complete with almost 10 miles to cover. There is bridge crossing, water crossing, and steep inclines. It is open year around for horseback riding, walking, biking, and dogs! This loop is located near Chickamauga, Georgia right off of Hog Jowl Road.

The parking lot is accessible with an easy back in or turn around area. The parking lot tends to be busy when the weather is nice, so having the ability to backup a horse trailer with precision wouldn't hurt.

Eureka Trail:

Located in Athens, Tennessee this is considered an easy out and back trail of 10 miles taking about 4 hours to complete. The trail is well kept and the parking has very easy access. The trails are beautiful and easy to ride! Located at 1400 E. Madison Avenue Athens, TN 37303.

Starr mountain horse trails

Located in Benton, TN on Starr Mountain and is adjoining with Chestnut Mountain. The trails used to be part of the forest service and logging roads. The trails range from easy to moderate and between .6 and almost 8 miles.

Don't have a horse but want to experience horseback riding in Chattanooga?

With 11 years of training experience, Haven’s career began by working with friends' horses, growing rapidly through word of mouth to working with clients from the public. Rather than following a single method, Haven tailors her training approach to meet each horse’s unique needs, recognizing that one style does not work for all horses. She has worked with a variety of breeds and disciplines, from untouched Mustangs straight from holding facilities to bringing them under saddle, to restarting off-the-track Thoroughbreds (OTTB), and handling weanlings for basic training. Her experience covers a wide range of training needs.

Champion Choice Equine Massage

Michaela Noe (featured above)

(865) 440-6531

Champion’s Choice Equine Massage is owned by Michaela Noe and is based in Smithville, TN. Michaela lives with her husband, two dogs (Leroy and Weston), and her horse, Tommy.

Champion’s Choice Equine Massage offers a range of equine bodywork services, including hands-on massage, massage gun therapy, myofascial release, kinesiology taping, red light therapy, and cupping therapy. Services are available within a 2.5-hour radius of Smithville, TN, with extended travel offered in special cases. Discounts are available for barns with four or more horses.

Michaela’s passion for equine massage was inspired by her horse, Tommy. After an injury in December 2023, Tommy was retired from competition. During his active days, his first bodywork session was scheduled before a local jackpot event. That same day, he ran his personal best and won the Open 1D. The noticeable improvement in his movement and performance after just one session led Michaela to pursue certification through Holistic Animal Studies. By April 2024, Champion’s Choice Equine Massage was established.

With the motto “Unleash the Power Within,” Champion’s Choice Equine Massage is dedicated to helping horses unlock their full potential by improving performance, relieving tension, and supporting recovery—empowering every horse to move and feel like a true champion.

High Point Equine Bodywork

Owned by: STEPHANIE PFITZER

“Improve performance, communication and your relationship with your horse”

Stephanie Pfitzer with High Point Equine Bodywork is a certified Practitioner in the Masterson Method of equine bodywork. She serves the Greater Chattanooga Tri-State area, including Northwest Georgia, Southeast Tennessee, and Northeast Alabama. She offers individual bodywork sessions and introductory clinics for horses of all breeds, ages, and disciplines—whether performance, pleasure, working, lesson, therapy, retired, or pasture companions.

The Masterson Method is a unique form of bodywork that uses the horses nervous system to help relieve tension in key junctions of the horses body.

“I am extremely passionate about this work because I have seen firsthand, both with our horses and our clients' horses, the incredible impact it can have on a horse and the horse-and-rider partnership. What I love most about the Masterson Method is that it’s something you do with the horse rather than to the horse. This aligns with my lifelong commitment to horsemanship—continuously learning and striving to be the best partner I can be for the horse.”

Stephanie is deeply passionate about helping horses. Her dedication to relieving their pain is evident, and she goes beyond just treatment—she also empowers owners by teaching them how to support their horse’s well-being while strengthening their bond.
